I did not register for the San Diego Craft Classic until mid-May, but I started running consistently at the beginning of the year, I suppose it was my New Year’s Resolution. I’ve been able to run anywhere from 60-100 miles per month. I definitely am not running as much as I was a few years ago when I was training for half and full marathons, but it’s the most running I’ve done in a while, so I am still happy with the results. Check out my running stats for each month, including # of runs, total miles, total time ran, and calories burned:
The first few months of the year were brutal because we were having what felt like extended winter weather. I would wake up just before 6AM and it was pitch black outside, I actually had to wear a headlamp during my runs to see in front of me. It was also freezing cold, I think it the 40’s, which is not very encouraging when the other option is to continue sleeping in your warm, comfortable bed! But I always think of the quote, “you never regret going on a run, but you may regret sitting around the couch being lazy”. Even though it is difficult to run in those conditions, as long as I push myself to get out of bed and get dressed, the rest is easier. And I always felt good about going on those runs. I would just think about the calories I burned and maybe even the weight I was losing. And I wouldn’t feel guilty about the junk feed I was eating. And that’s really what the Craft Classic is all about. People participating in that race aren’t trying to break world records, they just have an excuse to get up in the morning and hang out with their friends being active. The shirt and medal are bonuses, as well as the very popular beer garden. Having a beer after going on a run feels much more rewarding. So if you don’t have anything else planned for July 14, you should make your way over to the Craft Classic and participate in the 5K or if you’re feeling bold, the half marathon!
