I found an excellent report on all the clinical studies of running compression socks and athletes, and how very specific amounts of graduated compression in the sock construction is actually very important.
It's written by an international coach and pro runner, and there's actually a coupon for a free sample pair of running compression socks inside the report.

You can get it here: www.smoothtoe.com/runningreport

PS I LOVE my smoothtoe running compression socks!!

I love that they don't have an elasticated band. I was wearing Skins Powersox for that reason as a pair of 2xu had the elasticated band and it was uncomfortable.

I first saw compression socks on a gold medalist Olympian who ran a 15k race here a couple of years ago. They looked strange to me, but I've since seen them cropping up at a lot of competitions. ... I'm a "minimalist runner" but I do notice how easy it is to add gear, especially on long runs, with all that's available now.

I've started pairing back on the stuff that I take on runs now. I don't wear an iPod unless I'm doing a long run over 10 miles. My week day runs are shoes, socks (unless I'm wearing the VFFs,) shorts, shirt, and cellphone. I wear the Garmin when I'm doing track work.

Glad you liked them. I love mine and though I've never ran in them, I do love wearing them after long runs and sleeping in them :)
